The Power of Health

by Katy Kass, Owner of Plankt

During adolescence, I was sick with different auto-immune diseases. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and Lupus.

Feeling weak, I believed myself to be a burden to my family. As a teenager, I sustained a serious knee injury. Medications and a poor diet had left me full of inflammation. Both of these medical obstacles made me look for more holistic, natural approaches to my health. I had to learn to feed my body and mind more effectively.

Finding Pilates during college in Iowa City, Iowa changed my life’s trajectory. I walked to the studio everyday in pain. Within two months of going to class 3-4 times a week, I felt different. My motivation began to change, I jogged a few blocks. Then that turned into a mile, then two and three…I started fueling my body better and staying away from sugar and processed foods.

I began teaching Pilates in 2005, eager to help pain sufferers and relieve their despair. Bringing hope to anyone who would listen became my goal. As I taught Pilates, I noticed that people would get 50-60% better. That was not acceptable to me.

Fascial Fitness and Applied Kinesiology (AK) changed my teaching in 2014. A Pre-Med Biology major at the University of Iowa—AK was everything I loved. Intriguing, intellectual and best of all, IT WORKED! Which is why I do what I do everyday…to help every person I come into contact with decrease their pain & find hope. Hope for a better tomorrow and an amazing future physically and mentally.
